Sturgis - Part 1
On Sunday noon
I left the Radisson Inn in Bristol, CT. There was heavy rain for
three hours then it stopped. I drove steadily until I quit and camped
at the Snow Shoe, Pennsylvania (30 miles East of Clearfield, PA).
I had driven 300 miles on Routes 84, 81 and 80.
On Tuesday rain off and on made me take on and off the yellow raincoat and pants. Driving past the city of Chicago, I noticed how polluted the city was -- no comparison with the neat New England cities. While I was passing the city of Chicago, heavy rains started. The dark clouds made me drive longer, hoping to see the clouds disappear. I stopped by Austin, Minn. to camp out at Beaver Trails Campground -- finally with dry weather. I had driven 430 miles all day. On Wednesday I
relaxed at the campground until 10:30 A.M., then left on Route 90 going
west. I finally entered the State of South Dakota and stopped at
Happy Camp at Chamberlain, having driven 340 miles that day. I grabbed
the time to wash clothes for Sturgis. I will arrive at Sturgis one
day earlier than I thought I would. On the freeway there were more
than 1000 bikers on trailers and biking to Sturgis. I believe there
will be a new record for the number of people attending.
