On Sunday evening
I was at the Campvention at Hinckley, MN. At night it turned very
cold -- as low as 40 degrees. There are over 630 people and 70 kids
here as of Monday. Most of them are deaf senior citizens who have
plenty of time to do retirement activities. Hinckley is four seasons
of fun -- ATVing, biking, canoeing, golfing, hiking, horseback riding,
kayaking, snowmobiling, and more. The main reason people come for
these activities is that they can meet old friends again every two years
at different locations. The next Campvention, in 2002, will be in
California.
On Tuesday, many deaf
people took a tour by bus and during the same time the furious wind tore
at least 5 RV awnings. I happened to stay there and was able to help
close two awnings. Some of the people didn't go touring, they just
went to the big tent for chatting.
The weather turned
out bad, cold, rainy and windy. Most of the people were disappointed
about the weather. They kept some of the scheduled events -- golfing,
canoeing, games, touring and more. Some went to the Mall of America,
making them tired from the long walk. Some went touring to learn
about the History Museum and more.
On Wednesday some
of the attendees played games in the big tent, which holds 500 people.
I am leaving here
on Wednesday noon, going to Toronto, Canada. I have never been there
and it is about time for me to learn about that city. I expect to
arrive there either Friday or Saturday. |
