On Saturday I slept well and found Shirley Desrosier at
her computer room, chatting for several hours. We went to a restaurant
and she told me there is a camping weekend for Deaf Handyman (an experimental
event to see if people like it then they will host the first bi-annual
event next year) at Nelson's Family campground at East Hampton, CT, hosted
by the Northeast Recreation Association of the Deaf.
We went there and met Shirley's hubby, Tom, who was my woodshop/metal shop teacher at the American School for the Deaf. When we arrived we found there were contests by many Deaf people, especially women, who developed their skills by participating in events like hammering, screwing, sawing and more.. They enjoyed the events very much and wanted to have it again. I saw a total of 50 family-oriented people. On Sunday I joined Tom, going to Plymouth, Mass. to see his second home. His truck towed the 29-ft. travel trailer from camp. He showed me around Plymouth, which has many old barn houses, beach houses and houses with many rooms. We ate at a fish restaurant that showed a famous stone that the Pilgrims stepped on in the year 1620. We went to bed early.
