 Stone Deaf Campout
Hope, Arkansas

On Monday the weather was so perfect riding to New Boston, TX, to stay at Atlanta State Park with a few campers around.  I spoke with the ranger to find what good things there were about this campground.  He said it is good fishing, that is all. Meanwhile, I lubed the grease on the trailer axle and bought 4 quarts of motorcycle oil.

On Tuesday, finally, I left the State of Texas, going to Arkansas to stop by Hope, AR, for the Stone Deaf Campout one day earlier than my schedule.  I learned about a guy who calls himself "Tattoo" John, who owns the 22 acres of land given by his grandparents.  He is a kinda fun person.  He usually has monthly campouts with different themes.  When I entered the land next to the black community, I found Tattoo" John is himself a black deaf guy.  By the way, Hope is a dry town that voted to forbid the selling of any alcohol such as beer, wine, or hard drinks at stores.  If we want to buy beer we have to drive 30 miles to the next town to buy.  That is something I learned about wet or dry towns.

Four people from TX -- Dinah Parker, Linda Sheikh, Sharon Lewis, John Sholars --  and myself from CA camped for three nights.  Most of them are grass root people.  "Tattoo" John told me that he is the only certificated tattoo designer in the area.

I decided to leave that place on Friday A.M., going up to Hinkley, MN.  I believe I will arrive there Sunday or Monday. On the way I stopped at Spadra Park under supervision of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, near Russellville, AR.  In an hour it poured hard rain, but I managed all right with a tent.
